HEALING MAGDALENE SCREENS AT RIVER OAKS THEATER 09/18/2014

Healing Magdalene is a 96 minute film intended to generate global awareness about the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) in an effort to evoke universal change. This practice must be eliminated in order for the feminine to rise to full-capacity, and, thereby, balance the energy among the genders—an equilibrium essential for humanity to realize its greatest potential. The film challenges the viewer to ask whether or not our lives are truly significant and whether or not our actions truly do make a difference. One candle will light a dark space; a multitude will turn darkness to light. http://www.valvisions.org/film-info.htm

HOUSTON...GET THE BIG PICTURE

Image
Op-Ed by Michelle Mower Texas has been a huge part of the movie industry almost as long as motion picture has existed. The very first motion picture to ever win an Academy Award was shot in Texas. Native Houstonian Howard Hughes was a major driving force behind the early growth of the industry in Texas. I'm sure many of you remember when films like "Terms of Endearment" and "Urban Cowboy" were made in Houston in the 80's. It also brought a lot of revenue to small businesses like catering companies (to feed dozens of cast and crew people daily), lumber companies (to build sets), rental companies for camera equipment, lighting equipment, generators, etc., and even benefited individuals and families who were able to l...

MICKEY LELAND DOCUMENTARY COMING SOON

Image
Mickey Leland: A Man For All… The Mickey Leland Story: A Documentary Film (in the making) illustrates how an individual, not born to greatness, managed to uplift and deliver hope to others simply by his personal commitment. Tragically, it was on a famine-relief mission to an Ethiopian refugee camp that Mickey’s life came to a shocking and untimely end. His plane crashed into a mountain during a severe rainstorm just miles from his destination. His vision of a hunger-free world has yet to be realized, but his example serves as an inspiration. The Mickey Leland Story is a documentary film dedicated to Leland’s legacy of sharing food with the hungry, hope for the hopeless and love with the whole of humanity.
