For years the Houston Film Commission has sponsored the Texas Filmmakers Showcase, which is a special screening of short films and videos under 45 minutes in length. The screening is presented in Los Angeles annually to studio executives, agents and producers in the Hollywood film community. The winners are flown to the event and provided with an evenings accomodation and transportation to and from the screening. This years winners are: "The Aviatrix" - Todd Burton, Austin, TX. Congratulations to Pastorini-Bosby actor SAM RICHARDSON has been cast in the Lifetime tv movie "Living Proof." Shot in New Orleans, the movie stars Harry Connick Jr. as Dr. Dennis Slamon who devoted his life's work to finding a cure for breast cancer. Produced by Academy Award winning actress Renee Zellweger and Sony Pictures Television, the film will premiere on Lifetime Television in October 2008 as part of the Network's Stop Breast Cancer for Life campaign during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I want to take a brief moment to thank all of you that have become members of TXMPA and all of you that support our efforts. Hopefully you have all been receiving the numerous updates on our many meetings across the state. It is important that you join us at these gatherings as often as possible so we can keep you up to date on where we are headed and to be involved in the efforts of getting our message out to fellow industry members, legislators, and the public at large. While some of these messages may seem redundant to those that signed up early on, it is important for all of us to hear them in order to keep our focus. Long before the session begins in January, much work has already been done -- and there's a great deal yet to be done -- toward making Texas' incentive program more competitive, and regaining some of the ground that Texas has lost.
