GARY CHASON' CAMERA TECHNIQUE FOR ACTORS COMING NEXT MONTH

Gary Chason will conduct a CAMERA TECHNIQUE FOR ACTORS workshop in Houston on four consecutive Wednesday nights: June 5, 12, 19, & 26, 2013.

This class covers the mechanical aspects of acting in movies – the stuff crew guys know about but actors usually don’t. The CRAFT! Most don’t acquire proper craft until they make mistakes on the set, costing precious time and creating edi...ting nightmares. Learn what the common mistakes are – and how to avoid them! The class will include three maddeningly difficult exercises:

1. HIT YOUR MARK
This exercise will give you practice at all the mechanical requirements. You will receive a numerical score, quantifying your grasp of the craft.
MARKS – what they are, why they exist, how to hit them without peeking;
CONTINUITY – what it is and why it’s so important;
EYELINES – the direction your eyes are looking and why it’s so important, including a thorough explanation/demonstration of THE AXIS;
OVERLAPPING DIALOGUE – why it creates editing problems and when you can and can’t overlap;
FALSE MOVES – what they are and why they are bad;
CHEATING THE LOOK – when and why you do it;
LOOKING INTO THE LENS – why you mustn’t…and when you can!
2. WALK THE TRACK
The hardest mechanical challenge for a screen actor is walking on dolly track. In this exercise, you’ll walk down track while engaged in dialogue with another actor. And hit marks while handling a prop! The object of the exercise is to get a “Print” on the first take. Fewest takes wins.

3. LOOPING (ADR)
Watch yourself deliver lines on a monitor while listening on a headset, then match your lips in perfect synchronization so as to replace the dialogue. It’s a difficult challenge but a must-have skill for a pro!
