Course Description: Everyday, more and more consumers are turning away from traditional media outlets such as television and are seeking entertainment through their computers, iPODS and even their cell phones. Not only are they consuming media online, but they are also creating it! Digital technology has made it easier (and cheaper) than ever for filmmakers to tell their stories. Thanks to YouTube, Vimeo and other video hosting sites, filmmakers now have direct access to millions of online viewers. But what kind of media are people watching online? What is the best way to distribute content? Most importantly, how do you find and build an audience on the world wide web? This workshop will teach you the basics of how to write and produce a successful webseries, and will offer insights into how to find an audience.About Kim Every:
Kim Evey is a professional actress who has appeared on such TV shows as "ER," "Shark," and "Boston Legal." In 2007 she created, wrote and starred in "Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show," a parody of Japanese television that quickly went viral (the pilot alone has garnered over 2.3 million web-wide views), leading to a production and distribution deal from Sony Online. Next, Kim co-created the tongue-in-cheek "2 Hot Girls in the Shower," (over 10 million web-wide views) to see if You Tube viewers lured by the title would stay for the comedy. "The Guild," a webisode that Kim co-produces with creator/star Felicia Day was written as a half-hour spec pilot, then rewritten for the web to appeal to the online gaming community upon which it is based. The first season became a hit with over 11 million web-wide views and was unique in that it was primarily funded through fan donations. Season two was funded by Microsoft and sponsored by Sprint, yet the property remains independent. In addition, Kim co-created the popular web series "Retarded Policeman" (over 35 million web wide views) with her husband Greg Benson. "RP" and other comedy shorts Kim has written or appeared in can be viewed at www.youtube.com/mediocrefilms.
