HB873 VOTE ON WEDNESDAY
Our enhanced incentive legislation, HB 873 by Rep. Dawnna Dukes will be before the House of Representatives on Wednesday, March 25th. This means it will be voted on by the full House (all 150 members).
We need each of you to call YOUR State Representative.
Phone calls must be made on Tuesday, March 24th between 8 am and 6 pm or before 10am on Wednesday, March 25th. Calling after 10 am on Wednesday will be of no additional benefit and will be a waste of your time (and the legislator’s time).
Here is the link to find out the contact information for your Representative, http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/, if you do not already have it. Enter your HOME address and look for your STATE REPRESENTATIVE. You should see a 512.463.xxxx number listed. Call that number.
DO NOT CALL YOUR SENATOR AT THIS TIME. Only call State Representatives.
Also, please only make ONE phone call. Do not make additional calls to other Representatives outside your personal district.
Here is a basic script to read from when you reach your Representative’s office in Austin (remember: You are calling as a constituent of your own Representative’s district.)
“Hello, my name is (“X”) and I am calling as a constituent of Representative (“Y”). I am calling to express my support for HB 873 which is being read on the House Floor Wednesday, March 25th. The bill creates a more competitive incentive program for the moving image industry and will bring new projects and new jobs to Texas.
Please let Rep. “Y” know that a constituent called to express strong support for the bill AND TO ASK THEM TO PLEASE CONSIDER VOTING YES ON HB 873. Also, I would appreciate it if you would please let the Representative know that many of my fellow industry members in his/her district would really appreciate it if he/she would consider signing on as a co-author."
Again, my name is (“X”) and my phone number is (555-555-5555) and I will be happy to answer any questions Representative (“Y”) may have about the industry or the program. Please thank him/her for their support.”
DO NOT DISCUSS THE APPROPRIATION FOR OUR PROGRAM. The money will NOT be discussed on Wednesday. Now is NOT the time to bring it up.
Also, there is also no reason for anyone to attend the House session on Wednesday. Please do NOT feel the need to be at the Capitol on Wednesday. It will not increase our chances of passage.
Lastly, if Representative Dawnna Dukes is your Representative, there is no need to call her office. She is the Author of our bill and is completely supportive. It is poor form to call the author of the bill and ask them to vote yes on their own bill. Please DO NOT call Rep. Dawnna Dukes.
