Film Expo Texas Opens Doors to the Elusive Movie Industry

Houston, TX – On October 25, 2008, Film Expo Texas will host its sixth annual all day expo at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel situated at 2929 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77098. The nonprofit event, Getting into the Movies: Making the Industry Work for You, will offer: workshops, panel discussions, mentoring sessions and a movie screening in a small format atmosphere ideal for super-networking with the panelists. Open to the public, the expo welcomes filmmakers, actors and those interested in working in front of the camera, or behind the scenes in film or television, as well as potential vendors, service providers and the inquisitive.

The all day expo opens at eight o’clock a.m. and is priced at an affordable $35 which includes: admission to the panel discussions, exhibits, movie screening and a promotional bag stuffed with valuable resource materials.

The special guest for the expo is Houston based DP/Cinematographer Mark Sullivan, who will introduce the RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera, one of the hottest high definition cameras on the market today. His company, Spark Digital Media, produces industrials and commercials for Houston clientele and in-house short and feature length dramatic projects.

Another expo feature is a special screening of the controversial, yet timely, film, DAVID AND FATIMA. The film, which won the Humanitarian Award at the Mondavi Film Festival in August 2008, features Tony Curtis and Academy Award Winner, Martin Landau. The editor was Academy Award Winner, Richard Francis Bruce (Shawshank Redemption.)

Other expo workshop sessions include: The Art of Getting Cast, The Writer/Producer/Director Connection; Below the Line Departments (Makeup, Hair, Wardrobe, Art Department, Grips, Gaffers and Electricians, etc.) Post Production (editing) and more. The panel discussion, Doing Business with the Motion Picture Industry, is targeted towards business owners or managers seeking to earn some of the multi billions of dollars spent annually in movie and television production. In addition, award winning filmmaker, Gregory Carter (Hurricane Katrina, American Dream) and others, will lead mentoring sessions on Guerilla Filmmaking, Screenwriting, Acting for the Camera, Cinematography and Directing.

Film Expo Texas was founded in 2002 by motion picture industry veteran, Abiiba Howell, in response to the growing trend of runaway production. The mission of the expo is that of strengthening the local crew base through education, greater access to industry resources and raising of the bar when it comes to production standards. The goal of the event is to make the motion picture industry accessible to all through an affordable, small format event which seeks to educate, entertain and inform.
