BUILDING A FILM CULTURE IN HOUSTON: SWAMP SALON

"When people ask me if I went to film school I tell them 'no, I went to films'." Quentin Tarantino
Building a film culture in Houston is about more than just popping in to see the lastest blockbuster movie at the local megaplex or a friend's film that was shot locally. It's about developing a community of individuals who not only make films, but seek films that will push the envelope, defy conventions and ultimately help us shape our ideas of what our world should be. Independent films, art films, documentaries, experimental films all have a place in a culture driven by the love of film. At this salon, we will discuss what it takes to build a local community of people that will support and promote film as a viable artform.

Speakers: Trish Rigdon, Mary Magsamen and Sharad Patel.
Moderated by Marian Luntz.
