TEXAS FILM ROUND-UP OFFERS FREE FILM DIGITIZATION AND SCREENINGS BENEFITING TXMPA

LUBBOCK, TEXAS - The Texas Archive of the Moving Image brings its traveling educational program, the Texas Film Round-Up, to Lubbock's Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (511 Ave. K) on Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On both days, area residents can drop off Texas-related films or videos for TAMI's free digitization program and view TAMI's traveling exhibit "Preserving Memories: Texas' Moving Image Legacy." TAMI will also be offering free screenings of films and videos featuring the Texas Panhandle from its collection as well as short films from the Flatland Film Festival and rare footage from several local archives.
Films for the free digitization program can also be dropped off at the Texas Motion Picture Alliance and CapRock Winery's "Dinner and a Movie" event on Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at the CapRock Winery (19108 FM 1379 Road). TAMI will be screening highlights from the archive before the evening's feature presentation, "Bottle Shock." Tickets for this event (which includes dinner, wine and the film screening) are $20 and partial proceeds go to benefit the Texas Motion Picture Alliance. Offered through a partnership with the Office of the Governor's Texas Film Commission, the Texas Film Round-Up is a statewide effort to preserve and celebrate home movies, advertisements, local television, industrial films, feature films and other Texas-related moving images. The cornerstone of the Round-Up is TAMI's free digitization program, available to anyone with Texas-related film or video who is willing to contribute an electronic copy of their materials to TAMI's online library: www.texasarchive.org/library. Donors can drop off film and video on both days of the Round-Up. After digitization is complete, TAMI will return the originals to contributors, along with two DVD copies of their materials and information on how to keep those materials safe.
Both days will feature screenings of Lubbock-related films and videos. In addition to showcasing materials from TAMI's collections, and archival footage from Texas Tech University's Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library, the W.D. "Dub" Rogers, Jr. Collection at South Plains College, and Lubbock Independent School District Television (LISD-TV 12). A more detailed schedule will be posted on the Round-Up website the week before the program: texasfilmroundup.org. Round-Up attendees will learn more about Texas media history and film preservation by touring TAMI's traveling exhibit, "Preserving Memories: Texas' Moving Image Legacy." The interactive exhibit will include on-going demonstrations of TAMI's digitization process, several hands-on components and a guide for children.
