MEET THE TXMPA AT LARGE CANDIDATES
Meet the At-Large Candidates
Online Voting Begins Monday for all paid-up TXMPA Members
Craig Berlin
After two years on hiatus, I am running for an At-Large seat on the TXMPA Board of Directors once again in order to continue the momentum we established with our victory during this Legislative Session and further the effort to help the TXMPA evolve into a well-funded year-round advocate for film, video and video game production in Texas. It is imperative that we continue to raise money, communicate with members and prospective members to keep everyone involved, as well as build our marketing and infrastructure to establish Texas as THE place to produce. As a Founding Board Member of TXMPA, I spearheaded the initial campaign and we raised over $100,000 in our first year. In each legislative session I have led a team and the legislators visited have a voting record of 100% FOR our legislation including several co-sponsors. For the past two years I have regularly attended and spoken to numerous groups in Austin on a regular basis including the Network Austin Mixer, Austin Film Meetup, Reel Women, NALIP, Centex Final Cut Users Group, Austin Alliance, University Filmmakers Alliance and the SAG Conservatory as well as communicating to newsgroups and listserves all over the state to inform, educate and enroll members in TXMPA. As a native of Ft. Worth who has worked in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio as well, I remain committed to building our membership and infrastructure statewide.
Garry Potts
I am running for an At-Large seat on the TXMPA Board of Directors, and I’d like to have your support. As a member of the Legislative Task Force of the Dallas Producers Association (the forerunner to TXMPA), I was involved in the formation of TXMPA in 2006. I traveled to El Paso to help recruit its farthest-flung members. I helped raise the funds to hire HillCo, our expert team of lobbying partners. I have been an active part of every regional and statewide meeting and helped to organize the Lobby Days for both legislative sessions. Along the way, I have made or reconnected with many industry friends from all over the state. I believe I have good understanding of where this group has come from and where it needs to go. In term of individual committee involvement, I will serve at our president’s pleasure wherever I’m needed, but the “underlying theme” of my focus will be getting more TXMPA members actively engaged in the many tasks that lie ahead. I believe we can still boost the level of grass roots participation in our membership. It’s already good; let’s make it even better. Why? Because there is still so much to do. It is more than any hard-working board of directors can accomplish all by itself.

Besides being an extremely talented filmmaker, Garry is a native Texan and RELENTLESS in his pursuit of bringing film production to our state. I cannot think of a better at-large board member than Garry—this is not a “cool thing to do” for him, it’s something that he had been advocating for years before the bandwagon ever got rolling.
-Larry F. Hill, Screenwriter
I have known Garry through the Dallas Producers Association for more than 5 years. He is an amazing ideas and action man. I have worked with Garry these five years on the fundraising event: "It Came From Dallas," a celebration of the films and other broadcast works produced in and by Dallas producers. This entire concept was Garry's idea from the start. He was also one of the champions for creating the Texas Motion Picture Association. As a matter of fact, the majority of the thousands of dollars raised through "It Came From Dallas" each year have gone directly to the Texas Motion Picture Association. I am proud to call Garry friend as well as colleague. We would do well having Garry's actively creative mind working for all of us through the TXMPA.

Jeanette Scott
Jeanette Scott has worked in the film business in texas for over 20 years, the majority of the time in the art department. She serves on the board of the Austin Film Society and is ending a term on the board of the TXMPA, serving as the Central Region representative. During the past year, Jeanette & co chair Laura Segura hosted the largest grossing fundraising event to date for the TXMPA- the Spaghetti Western. Jeanette has worked very hard to grow the membership and spread the message in her region. Now she would like to turn her efforts to a state wide focus- to raise money & member numbers, and to enable the organization to grow to a point where there is a permanent full time office with a paid executive director. "I believe the organization is in need of continuity. With so many turnovers on the board, I believe I would be a real asset in providing continuity and continuing the effort to raise money & numbers and leave TXMPA in a solid, well funded and well organized state."
